Trainee Programme

Trainee Programme

Training at the GRS Academy for prospective experts in the field of nuclear safety lasts one year. A total of two graduates have made the grade this year: they have been accepted to take part in the Trainee Programme of GRS. This programme is a hands-on introduction to the professional life of an expert working in the specialist fields covered by GRS. It is part of the internal training and further qualification programme of GRS that is conducted under the umbrella of the GRS Academy.

What happens during the GRS Trainee Programme?
During their year of training, the trainees become acquainted with the various activities and tasks of GRS, both in theory and in practice. Theoretical training is performed on the basis of a modular training programme. Internationally renowned internal and external experts impart to the trainees a host of well-founded technical information and give them a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in science and technology.

The main focus is on technical knowledge about nuclear safety and international co-operation in this area. Advanced courses are then provided i.a. on the topics of reactor physics, physical protection, and reactor systems engineering. On the practical side of the programme, the trainees are introduced to the work of GRS's different technical divisions in the form of on-the-job training. Here, they are given an insight into the day-to-day work of an expert and gain first experience.

What are the qualifications the trainees bring with them?
The main prerequisite for being allowed to take part in the Trainee Programme is the graduation from a course in higher education, either from a university or from a university of applied sciences. Other prerequisites that are also important are a very good knowledge of German, a good knowledge of English, social skills, good judgement, and the ability to assert oneself.

And what happens after the traineeship?
Following successful completion of the training, GRS employs the trainees at one of its company locations where they can work on challenging tasks.
