GRS represented with technical lectures at the 2018 Annual Meeting on Nuclear Technology

Best Paper Award for study into the long-term storage of fuel rods

At this year’s Annual Meeting on Nuclear Technology, which took place in Berlin from 29 to 30 May, GRS experts gave numerous technical lectures. The focus here was on topics to do with simulation of reactor accidents and the simulation codes used for this purpose, some of which have been developed by GRS itself. Also, experts of GRS have chaired some of the Annual Conference’s technical workshops. The full programme can be found online.

Our GRS colleague Dr. Heinz-Günther Sonnenburg had special reason to celebrate – his scientific paper on “TESPA-ROD Code Prediction of the Fuel Rod Behaviour During Long-Term Storage” won the Best Paper Award. This distinction is conferred every year by the organiser to acknowledge a scientific study of special relevance. In his paper, Dr. Sonnenburg discusses the prediction of the possible behaviour of fuel rods during long-term storage.
