Apps

Knowledge from natural sciences often falls into the category of “heavy stuff”. The complicated contents are not always easy to grasp quickly.

With our apps, we want to give interested citizens a practical insight into our topics that is close to everyday life.

Radon Dosis

The Radon Dose app calculates the radiation dose caused by the radioactive noble gas radon. As a starting point for the calculation, the app uses information on the activity concentration in becquerel per cubic metre (Bq/m3) as well as the length of stay, with the option of distinguishing between place of work and place of residence. The result of the calculation is given as an annual radiation dose in millisieverts (mSv). The app calculates the radon dose using the specified data on the basis of scientific assumptions and models.

Comparative values for radiation exposure - e.g. the X-ray image of a tooth - help to better categorise the results. At the same time, the app provides users with tips on what they can do in the event of elevated levels.

Aerosol Control

The GRS web app Aerosol Control calculates the risk of infection with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 through virus-laden aerosols in a room. Aerosol Control illustrates the influence of various factors on the virus-laden aerosol concentration in room air and thus on the risk of infection.

Users can describe their current room situation in the web app by entering various details: the number of people in the room, the length of stay, the size of the room, ventilation, the physical activity of the people and whether a mask is worn.
With these data, the web app calculates a percentage value. The value gives an indication of how high the risk of infection through corona aerosols is under the conditions specified.

Curious Marie

The Curious Marie app calculates personal radiation exposure. Users can enter data in four categories that have an influence on individual radiation exposure: place of residence, medical examinations, air travel and smoking habits.

In order to better understand and assess the personal radiation dose, Curious Marie also contains explanatory background information. Those who want to delve deeper into the subject can test and expand their knowledge on the topics of nuclear physics, radiation and radiation protection with a quiz and learning videos.

ENMAP

The ENMAP app shows the power supply installation at the current location or in a selected region throughout Germany on an interactive map.

Pictograms indicate the respective type of installation. In addition, the app provides information on the name, operator, output and age of the selected installation.

ENMAP covers all types of electricity generation, from renewable energies, coal and gas to nuclear energy. Filters can be set to improve the display of the installations in the app. In addition, the user can search for specific installations using a search function.
