Decay Days: To all PhD students and early-career researchers in the field of final disposal research!

This year, GRS is organising the 4th Decay Days from 13 to 16 October 2026 in the offices of the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) in Berlin. During Decay Days, early-career researchers in the field of final disposal will have the opportunity to network and present their work.

Participants from engineering, natural science, technical, social science, and societal research backgrounds are warmly invited to contribute, ensuring that the full range of perspectives relevant to radioactive waste disposal and the site selection process is represented. Experienced experts will also stimulate discussion and exchange of ideas through their keynote presentations. On Friday, there will be presentations by the BGZ on the topic of interim storage and a visit to the Info-Centre.

Registration and format

Registration is now open and can be found here. Places are limited. 

Decay Days is planned as an in-person event. Due to the visit to BGZ, the event will run for a total of four days, from Tuesday morning to Friday lunchtime.

Participation fee

A participation fee of 150 euros will be charged. Once registration is complete, participants will receive an invoice, which also serves as confirmation of registration. If you cancel up to 7 days before the event, we will refund 100% of the participation fee. After that, we will charge a cancellation fee of 50% of the participation fee. If you do not attend or cancel on the day of the event, you will be charged 100% of the participation fee.
