Frank-Peter Weiß to become new scientific-technical director of GRS
Cologne, 9.12.2009 – The new scientific-technical director of Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS) mbH will be Prof. Dr. Frank-Peter Weiß. The supervisory board of GRS passed a corresponding decision at its meeting in Cologne on 4 December 2009. Professor Weiß will succeed Dipl.-Phys. Lothar Hahn in the summer of 2010.
Prof. Dr. Frank-Peter Weiß is 58 years old. He is married with two children. He studied physics at Dresden University. In 1986, he received his doctorate at the Central Institute of Nuclear Research of the GDR Academy of Sciences, which in 1992 was to become the Dresden-Rossendorf Research Centre (FZD). Here, Prof. Dr. Weiß had been working as a scientist since 1973, filling various functions. For example, in 1992 he became Head of the Institute of Safety Research at FZD and in 1994 Professor of Safety of Technical Plants at the Institute of Energy Technology of Dresden Technical University. Apart from teaching at university and carrying out research, Prof. Dr. Weiß is a member on numerous technical committees, such as the German Reactor Safety Commission and various committees established by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. He is also an expert advisor to the European Commission.
