(GRS-IRSN 1) The Franco-German Initiative

The explosion of the RBMKtype reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl NPP in the Ukraine on April 26, 1986 and the subsequent fire in the core of the reactor led to a considerable release of radioactive substances into the environment as well as to a dispersion of fuel debris in the vicinity of the power plant.
